To answer your question about language surrounding the trans* community: It is generally accepted to use "trans" (sans-asterisk) to refer to someone who identifies within the binary, either as a transman or transwoman. "Trans*" and also "transgender" are generally accepted as umbrella terms and may be used for anyone who is not cisgendered; that is, does not identify as the gender they were assigned at birth all the time. "Binaristic" is not a word, but "binary" may be used as an adjective.

Hope you don’t mind me publishing your response (message me if not because I answered others privately) but another person replied saying that Trans and Trans* are interchangable, and for that reaso it would be incorrect to use “Trans” (sans-asterisk) to exclusively refer to binary-identified people - I wonder what the general consensus is?

Also, I was kinda joking about “binaristic” haha (but it totes should be a word)

Can the term “trans” be used to refer to people who identify within the binary, and the term “trans* ” refer to anyone who is - in lamens terms - not cis?

or, failing this, is there a succinct term for a trans person who identifies within the binary, and a distinct and succinct term for a trans* person whose identity may be not-cis/outside of the binary/fluid e.g. gender queer, bigender, gender-fluid etc.

also is “binaristic” a word? (pretty sure i just made that up) is there a word that can replace it?

P.s

This is for one of my major works - I’m discussing how vernacular shapes discourse which shapes queer acceptance within a western framework, so i’m only using terms that are western - so terms like “two-spirit” and “hirja” for example will not be helpful to me right now

also, I hope that how I have phrased things does not offend anyone, please call me out if this post has shown a lack of understanding in any way, shape or form
